Open collaboration

Find work that fits how you think.

Literature, statistics, engineering, design, clinical and community knowledge all move the Atlas. Every contribution starts with a conversation.

Working groups

Three groups are forming.

Examples, not requirements: curiosity counts.

Data & Infrastructure

Group forming

Find allele counts in papers, supplements and non-English literature. Place every population with a stated uncertainty, then store and serve every version.

For example: literature sleuths, data engineers, multilingual readers.

Statistical & AI Modeling

Group forming

The world has not been sampled evenly. Bayesian spatial models and geometric deep learning fill the gaps. Frequencies become disease-burden and risk estimates.

For example: statisticians, machine-learning engineers, epidemiologists.

UI & Applications

Group forming

Make estimates and unknowns legible to anyone. Future exploration: an agentic AI guide and people’s own genomes, gated by privacy, consent and governance.

For example: designers, front-end developers, map makers.

How the groups fit together.

One line carries evidence to the map. Each group owns a stretch of it.

How work moves.

One issue, from hello to merge.

Genome OS Atlas

  1. Discussion: three newcomers arrive and say hello. One says “Hi! I’d like to help.” Another answers “Welcome aboard!” and a third points the way: “Try the Backlog!”
  2. Backlog: the newcomer scrolls through the issues on a tablet, gets an idea and picks a Ready one. The example card lights up and shows their avatar.
  3. In progress: they sit at the bench and work a block with a hammer, inspecting it after every strike, until it lights up, finished.
  4. In review: they raise the finished block. Two experts in lab coats come over; one thinks it over, hand on chin. “Where are the counts from?” “Table 2, linked in the PR.” “Checks pass. Nice work!” “Approved!” Everyone nods, and the experts take the block.
  5. Merge: the experts fit the block into the wall, which lights up, complete and shining. The contributor bounces over and they all celebrate.
